Qi Lan 2023 - Oolong Tea
Qi Lan 2023 - Oolong Tea
Qi Lan, meaning "Rare Orchid" in English, is rock tea (or Yancha) found in the Wuyi mountains in China. This variety comes from Fujian, and has been thriving in the Wuyi montains since the 1990s.
This tea cultivar is processed with lower oxidation and multiples low-heat baking periods, allowing the fruity flavours to be enhanced and preserved. Qi Lan has a distinct and robust aroma, smelling distinctly of orchid, with a mellow aftertaste that lingers on the palate.
Rock teas are known for their strong mineral flavour. This, in addition to the polyphenols and caffeine, can add to a bitter, astringent flavour in the brewed tea. We advise experimenting with quantity of tea leaves, water temperature, and brewing time to find the flavour that is best suited to you.
We source our teas as close to the original producer as possible, while other brands are often multiple steps removed from the original producer, our Chinese tea is sourced directly from the single farm which produces them, ensuring as much profit as possible goes to the people growing and blending the tea, and keeping these communities thriving.
In addition to this, a portion of our sales goes to Rainforest Trust UK, to do what we can to protect endangered species and threatened habitats across the world. Each cup you enjoy places 25sqm of endangered land under protection, so you can enjoy your tea knowing you're helping the environment, and the communities of those growing the tea.
